Turrican II: The Final Fight is an action platformer game and second title in the Turrican series, developed by Factor 5 and published by Rainbow Arts in 1991 for the Commodore Amiga and ported the same year to other personal computers.

Though this game never received any console ports, the publisher Accolade, which held the game's console publishing rights at the time, retooled the game and released it for the Sega Mega Drive and Game Boy as a tie-in to the Universal Soldier movie.

Story[]

From the game's manual[]

MORGUL, the three-headed incarnation of evil, has finally been destroyed! But you, Turrican, cannot rest because your most dangerous and most noble mission is yet to commence...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, brave rebellious fighters destroyed the menacing hordes of the Machine and its tyranny-spreading satellite, which circled the planet of the brave, the planet called Landorin. The evil moon has gone, but Landorin wasn't free. The Machine still ruled the surface of the planet. The Landorins retreated to the inner core of their world to await their destiny... DEATH. The machines and mutants, however, went on to roam trough the deserted ruins of a long-lost paradise in search of the entrance to the secret caves.

Before the Landorins retreated, they managed to send a desperate cry for help: A last radio signal floats through the endless reaches of the trisolar system and off to the farthest reaches of the universe. The cry is heard, and a man has to be found... A man with the courage to face the hordes, a man to free the last survivors of Landorin, an man on his most dangerous adventure ever... TURRICAN.

Go out to seek the MACHINE and its slaves, collect the weapons and ships of an ancient civilization and free the planet Landorin forever!

Details[]

The game's prologue shows the starship Avalon 1 and its crew, the members of the United Planets Freedom Forces, who are on a expedition to the outer reaches of the known universe in Stardate Year 3025. However, a gigantic star-cruiser suddenly materializes and attacks Avalon 1, neutralizing its defenses and punching a hole from where a horde of mutants invade the ship. The crew members fight valiantly but are all killed by the enemy forces, all except for Bren McGuire, who ends under a chunk of debris and plays dead. A sudden silence follows as the evil Machine enters the ship and surveys the carnage. Satisfied with the result, the Machine leaves the ship along with his evil hordes. After realizing he was now alone in the ship, Bren hurries to the ship's equipment room, where he dons one of the Turrican Assault Suits stored there and swears revenge against the Machine and his hordes.

Gameplay[]

Turrican II improves on the gameplay from its predecessor. It ditches the secondary weapons from the first game, keeping only the Power Line, while adding a new primary weapon, the Bounce Shot. The gyroscope form returns and now can be used indefinitely. Additionally, players can now drop mines while in gyroscope form. Once again the game has five worlds to explore, all of which now have only two distinct areas, with the only exception being the third stage, which changes the gameplay into a shoot 'em up.
